This is an excellent product for the price. I feared the screen was too small, but it's fine. The voice commands tell me the street name, give me the distance to the next turn, and repeat itself just before the turn. Excellent product, I highly recommend it!

A great GPS at a great price. I paid $118 and a week later it was over $150!(probably because it's discontinued). Small & light with good window suction. Anyone who has used a GPS knows they are not perfect, and this one is no different. I think Garmin is a top brand and would recommend it. I use mine primarily in a truck and the only complaint I have is that the volume could be louder. No problems otherwise.
 slow in finding satellite and route; inconvenient UI September 1, 2010

I had a Garmin 3600 as my first GPS and had major complaints about being slow in finding satellite and calculating the routes. Three years ago I bought a Mio c220 and was quite happy about the speed. A couple months ago, the Mio died and I had to get a new one. After reading the review, I bought Garmin 265t - a big mistake. (Even worse, I didn't use it much until recently and it already passed the return period.)
This Garmin unit may look pretty, loaded with fancy features, but it doesn't do its job well. The most critical job for a gps is to find your location, and give directions. This Garmin is even worse than the Mio I got 3 years ago. Generally it took the Mio c220 a few seconds to find the satellite, but Garmin Nuvi 265t needs about half a minute, some time more than a minute. It takes even longer if you start driving while it's looking for signal. It's better than 3600, which took quite a few minutes, but I guess as a tradition Garmin is weak in general finding satellite signals, though they are very good are marketing. I used a Tomtom and a Magellon from friends, and both were much faster in finding signals.
The calculation of route is slow, too. Though once it find the route, recalculating is not bad.
Start-up time is long, too.
You would guess with traffic info, Garmin should improve the estimate of arrival time, and thus make a better choice when looking for fastest route, but that's not the case. It's as worse as the Garmin 3600 from 2004. Not even taking the lights into account. How hard is it to add an average wait time for each light?
The UI is terribly designed. No easy way to look at the full route, not to mention switching between the full route and the next-turn view. (Mio did an OK job on this)
When showing traffic, it makes the route hard to see.
One unbearable thing is the keyboard. They don't even provide an option to use the qwert layout. The average person today like me are used to the qwert layout and it's really annoying to look for letters in the abcd arrangement.
When searching for an address, you have to type it exactly correct. Otherwise, you won't find the street. How hard is it to use fuzzy matching? Mio did a much better job on this - it was a great pleasure entering address in Mio after the suffering Garmin experience.
Garmin just doesn't put much thought in the UI design. It's probably designed by a college intern and received no review or user feedback.
I will probably never buy a Garmin again.
Good but not great August 30, 2010

We owned one of these devices previously, but it was stolen so we decided to replace it, and chose the same model we had before. The only real problem came during installation/setup. Garmin gives a free map upgrade (which is great, they didn't use to, and you got a navigator maps a few years old - out of the box) but the upgrade didn't work on our Vista 64bit machine. I had to take the device down to my work pc which runs XP 32bit to get the maps to install correctly.
The accuracy is always been a bit soft, sometimes it says something is on the right side of the street, when its on the left, etc. But nothing too bad. It almost got us lost up on the mountains once with us low on gas, but we were able to change our destination from some obscure location in the mountains, to a small town near by to get gas and to ask for directions from a local.
But overall it works well, the text to speech is pretty good, though it does sometimes change its pronunciation from time to time. Typically as we get closer the pronunciation becomes more accurate.
This was rated as a "best buy" by consumer reports, and I'd agree with that. For the money it is a good device.

I am very dissatisfied with the Garmin products. The Nuvi 265T was my last Garmin I will every buy, I had a Nuvi 350 before that and I was unhappy with the performance of that one. Both units are very slow to receive signal, gave wrong directions numerous times.
The 265T is suppose to to have the so called Hot fix feature....I could be half way to my destination and the flashing question mark would still be flashing. Many times it did not know what its location was so I did not know if I should make a turn or go straight. The last straw was when it put me a 1/4 of a mile past my destination, into a empty weeded lot. I don't understand as to why this technology can't be perfected at this point in time. I think the mass production has something to do with overall quality and reliability of the Garmin products. As that I need one I will try a Tom Tom product for my next GPS. No more Garmin junk for me.
